There are some plants that deer seem to avoid you might want to consider planting in your yard. Keep in mind there may be regional differences in deer food preferences. It’s always best to research your state’s agricultural extension service for the best local advice.
Generally, deer do not care for plants with thistles, Balsam Fir, Honeysuckle and Lilac to name a few. They also seem to avoid Allium, Bleeding-heart, Flax, Lamb’s Ears, Lily of the Valley, Oriental Poppy, Sage and Yarrow. However, if a deer’s food source is limited, it will feed on whatever’s available. It would be wise to protect all your ornamental and flowering plants with a spray that would deter the animals completely and keep them off your property.
